What to do while help is on the way
Stop running water — every gallon in makes it worse. Keep people and pets away from any surfaced sewage. Don't add "septic treatment" chemicals; they don't fix a full tank and can complicate pumping. If the backup is in the house, protect what you can and leave cleanup until the flow is stopped.
